Members of First Presbyterian Church are strongly encouraged to participate in what is known as The Andrew Project. Based upon the account found in John 1:29-42, the Andrew Project is an effort of individual members sharing with people they know when questions arise about faith, God, and what it means to be a disciple. (The sermon presentation of the Andrew Project can be found here.)

In a nutshell, we believe our members have an obligation to share their hope, and to share their faith story with people who are yearning to discover the power and message of Jesus Christ in their own lives. Therefore, we must be intentional in our efforts to share the gospel message. But rather than standing on soapboxes, or using high-pressure conversations, we use the Andrew Project to cultivate an attitude, a way of life, for those in our midst. Below, you can find a written version of the Andrew Project:

The Andrew Project

Believing that each member of the Church has a calling to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, and to bring others to faith in him, I promise to commit myself to the Andrew Project. I will, with God's guidance, seek to bring one person into the faith and fellowship of Christ's Church in the coming year. To this end I commit myself to:

PRAY: I will pray regularly for my Andrew Project, that they might be open to the movement of the Holy Spirit in their life. I will also pray for my own spiritual sensitivity to discern how and when to share my faith with them.

INVITE: I will reach out to invite my Andrew Project, whether unchurched or inactive, to attend worship or other events of the church with me.

ENCOURAGE: I will continue to invite and encourage a deepened faith commitment and participation in the life of the Church by my Andrew Project. I will honestly seek to answer their questions, and will seek help from others as necessary in this task.

WELCOME: I will take personal responsibility to welcome my Andrew Project into the household of faith. I will help them to meet and share with other members of the congregation.

ASSIMILATE: I will continue to mentor my Andrew Project until they are firmly grounded in the faith and/or assimilated into the active life of the Church.

Knowing that faith is a gift we are given by God, I will trust the ministry of the Holy Spirit to guide my actions and inspire my words, to the end that Jesus Christ will be given all glory and honor.

As Presbyterians, the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are a primary source of God's revelation to us. While worship and educational opportunties are a vital part of our life together as a congregation, it is the responsibility of every disciple to engage the words of scripture on a daily basis. The Daily Lectionary is a tool to help us in this part of our spiritual disciplines.

The Daily Lectionary consists of a reading from the Old Testament, Psalter, Epistles and Gospel. There are two options listed below. You can go to the PC(USA) national website and there subscribe to the Daily Lectionary; it will then be sent to your e-mail inbox every day. The other option is to go the PC(USA) website and subscribe to their RSS feed.

Either way, e-mail or RSS, this is an important tool for our spiritual journey and disciplines.

The reading of the Daily Lectionary can be a disicpline in and of itself. Many people also incorporate the daily readings as part of the disciple of Daily Prayer. Booklets for using Daily Prayer are available, free of charge, via the church office.
