Children's Ministry
Surely, somewhere in the Bible there must be a verse that says, "Blessed be the Church School Teachers for they work to ensure the future life of the church."
In September 2002, First Presbyterian Church implemented our new Workshop Rotation Sunday School Program. We call it "Faith Forest."
You'll find the education wing hallway filled with trees, flowers, a waterfall, eagle, owl, raccoon, mouse, porcupine, beaver, bear and butterflies. Our classrooms consist of kid-friendly, multi-media workshops including Garden Gallery (art room), Starlight Café (cooking), Pine Tree Haven (activities), and Holy Tent (storytelling).
The same Bible story is taught in all of the workshops for 4 weeks, with the various age groups of kids (K-1st grade, 2-3rd grade, 4-5th grade) rotating to a different workshop each week, including a Story Tent, Craft Room, Cooking Center, and Activity Room. This way the children learn each Bible story through several different senses and learning styles. In the fall of 2005, the Activity Room will be replaced with our brand new computer learning center, allowing children to use this favorite medium to learn deeper spiritual truths.
To provide consistency and a friendly face, our Forest Rangers are adults who travel with a specific age group through each of the workshops, knowing and caring for each child personally. For the younger ages, preschoolers sing and learn in the Robin's Nest, and nursery age children are supervised by experienced, paid personnel in the Peaceful Clearing.
